About Me
I’m Sonia, a sophomore at Baruch College studying Mathematics. My interests lie in NLP and the evaluation of language models, specifically around understanding model behavior and the limits of how we measure it: where standard metrics succeed, where they fail, and what more rigorous evaluation might look like.
These technical interests don’t exist in a vacuum: they’re shaped by a deeper concern with AI ethics and what it means to build and measure systems responsibly.
I’m also interested in higher education policy more broadly, through work in student government, committee work, and teaching. Where those two interests meet most directly is in how universities are navigating AI–a question I’ve engaged with concretely as a design consultant on a first-year AI literacy course at Baruch.
My goal is to pursue a PhD in computer science, focused on the evaluation of complex models.
Some fun facts about me:
- My lucky charm is a smiley face called Bob that I draw on exams.
- My favorite animals are sharks (hence my GitHub profile picture).
- I love em-dashes!
